Part 3 of day continued
Once we ate at Totonno's, we explored a gameshop we had passed by on Neptune Ave and I ended up with Puyo Pop Fever (one of hte most addicting games known to man). Ofer got Age of Empires used. Bill and Charlie just browsed and looked on. For the final event in brooklyn, we decided to explore the fun that is Coney Island in the summer. Saw many old rides and things. Actually, me, Ofer and Charlie got on the ancient wooden rollercoaster, the Cyclone. At $6/ride, it was extremely affordable. It was sorta a tight fit for me and Ofer, and I actually had my glasses fall off (but I caught it with my hand and had them there for the whole ride). Charlie was in a seat all by himself. It went up/down over 6~7 times, and we sat near the second to last cars or the last car. We all agreed it was fun. We then took a break to shoot some photos there at a shaded spot. Ofer did a test drive of my camera, and Bill and Charlier used theirs. Me and Charlie also rode the AstroTower, a elevator like contraption. It was sorta stinky as some one had smoked a joint in it beforehand. Further browsing and phototaking ensued... until we decided to leave for the city. We ended up in Chinatown and on Grand st. Found Mott St, walked up the street and ended up at a bubble tea house (it was calld Green Tea something or other - anyhow, the one south of Teariffic or some such). Bill had Honeydew Juice, Ofer had Honeydew Juice and tea, Charlie had Chococlate Milk Tea with Tapioca Pearls (couldn't stop thinking Salty Chocolate Balls a la South Park's Chef) and I had my usual Taro with Tapioca Pearls. From there we walked further South, and I asked for directions near 1 Police Plaza to the seaport. Armed with good directions (and after pointing out the Brooklyn Bridge) we arrived at South St Seaport where we saw two mimes - one Robot themed one and another dressed up like a pilot. Hilarious moments occurred when passers by who weren't watching were shocked and surprised by the mimes previously thought to be statues.... Took more pics of the Peking, a old ship/museum then walked around the southern tip of Manhattan taking lots of pics and fiddling with our cameras to get good shots. Actually learned more about our cameras on this trip than ever - Night shots, when not to use flash, etc etc. Finally arrived at Ground Zero (it had long since turned dark) and took more photos. Took E/C train to 14th St, and went to Better Burgers where I treated Bill to his dinner while Charlie and Ofer paid for their own. Then we stopped by at Dunkin Donuts for "dessert" (I separated from the gorup to look for Water - ended up at Korean Grocery on 25th and 8th). We went up, talked and watched "Jerry Seinfeld: Live on Broadway" while I burned Charlie his pics (Pics from my camera) and his fansubs onto my desktop. Charlie eventually left, and we played some Mario DS and then ended up talking until 5am or so. | | Thursday, September 7th, 2006 | | 10:13 am |
Weekend Update - Part3
Dammit - my memory is getting fuzzier and fuzzier. We woke up about 9:30ish that morning. When Charlie arrived about 1:15pm we left to get on the C/E train to West 4th st and finally transferred to the D train to get to Stillwell Ave in Coney Island. Once there, we went straight for Totonno's, a venerable and old Italian Pizzeria. Now Totonno's, located 1545 Neptune Ave, is one of the oldest continuously operating pizzerias in the city. In fact, it's been around since at least 1920's in it's currrent location. The other thing of note is that they only sell pies baked fresh to order at their restaurant. We went in aournd 2:20PM and had no wait (we beat the rush) and ordered a White Pie and a Large Pepperoni and Onion pie. I ordered the Brooklyn Lager, while Charlie and Ofer ended up with small bottles of wine (Chianti for Charlie, and somethine else for Ofer), and Bill had a bottle of coke. For the next 50 mins we were in pizza heaven. Charlie and Bill tried their first White Pie (Olive oil, Garlic, Ricotta/Goat cheese) which all agreed was good. We each had 4 slices of pizza and were well satisfied and full. | | Tuesday, September 5th, 2006 | | 11:35 am |
Weekend Update - Part 2
Saturday, September 02nd, 2006 We all woke up sometime around 9~10 AM on Saturday Morning, and then called Charlie - the older anime fan and a stout member of Metro Anime. He was set to meet us to go to Book-Off for the first time. We decided to meet up at my place around 1~1:30 PM. (note: digression follows) Ah~ Book-Off. This is THE store for otaku who desire Import Items. With import CDs, Manga, and Artbooks (among other used US and Japanese items - but no Import games, sad to say) at 1/2 price or lower. The Japanese standard for "Mint" is basically new, and anything lower gets a HUGE discount. In fact, one can say that their used is Near Mint or Mint to us. Located on 41st Street between Fifth Ave and Madison (it's roughly 1/3 of the way to Madison Ave (Going East from Fifth Ave)). Open 7days/week. (/digression) So we ended up with some time to spare, and decided time for Live Action Martial Art Movies. Bill showed us some scenes from the final fight of Dragons Forever (I think) With Jackie Chan, Sammo Hung, Yuen Biao. I showcased some stuff from Jet Li's "Fearless" but due to the crappy nature of the bootleg couldn't show the final fight. We also proceed to watch 2 episodes of the hilariously insane show (Distributed by Geneon) Dokkoida. Bill enjoyed it, and Ofer sorta fell asleep in between. At 1PM, Charlie arrived and we decided to grab a quick bite at Taco Bandito downstairs (some of us hadn't eaten breakfast) about 20mins later. The people at Taco Bandito messed up our orders, and Ofer and I ended up eating each other's orders (hehe). Charlie enjoyed his chicken burrito, and bill enjoyed his soft tacos. We proceeded to walk to Image Anime on 30th st between 7th Ave and 6th Ave where I grabbed a few dvds. (Kannazuki no Miko, Law of Ueki, Fighting Spirit #13 Youth of Fire, and Speed Grapher 2). Then we walked to Jim Hanley's to shop look around and discovered that they had a 25% off labor day sale. I bought 2 items, and left them there as I got my bag >_<;;; Finally went to Book Off where I decided not to shop and just waited at the Burger King across the street for the next 45~55 mins. Ofer came back first, then followed by Charlie and Bill who had all scored some good artbooks. It started raining way too hard, and we were all wet and bedraggled. Bill was especially troubled, as his $1 small umbrella was FUBAR'd. So we all elected to go back to my apartment via subway. Once back, we looked/re-examined our purchases at the various stores, and also decided to order in from Ginger House. I took there orders, and ordered us dinner, which came about 40 mins later missing 2 rice. Once we finished eating, the guys decided to re-teach me Poker and we proceeded to have a poker game. Five card Draw proceeded to Seven Card Stud to Texas Hold 'Em. We also started to bet with some wooden matches I had around as the "pot" at some point until Charlie had to leave (11pm or so). Messed again with the DS for a bit, I believe... We played some Burnout 3 Crash mode. Found a memory card, and started messing with unlocking the crash events and cars. Eventually we did get to bed. Weekend Update - Part 1
Damn, what an eventful weekend this Labor day. From Friday evening to Monday Afternoon were spend on eating, shopping, a bit of gaming, and talking well into the wee hours of the morning. Here are the activities we engaged in... Friday Evening Jack Tse, a friend I met at the monthly Manga Meet up with Ofer, came over around 630ish and Ofer came later. We then met up with Bill, dumped the stuff at the apartment, and then proceeded to eat Korean BBQ at New York Gomtang and Kalbi from 9:10 to 10:00pm. Ordered 4 servings of meat - 1 serving of Bulkogi, 2 servings of Saeng Galbi, 1 serving of regular Galbi, and assorted drinks (Beer for me and Jack, 7-UP for Bill and Ofer). Ate talked and made merry. Once done there, we went into Han Ah Reum (Korean Supermarket) and got some stuff there (Jack had a Sac Sac (Honeydew? Can't recall)) Melon ice bars, and red bean ice bars (B-B-Big). Meal came out to about $126 or so with tip. Covered Bill for that meal (as it was his B-day). Melon bars were a hit with both Ofer and Bill. In fact, Bill said I should ship him a few boxes in dry ice... (Wasn't sure how to do so so I refused). Jack left us, and then the Fearless Otaku Trio went back to the apartment for gaming. Some Nintendo DSing ensued with the Bleach Fighting game, and New Super Mario Bros until like 2 am when Ofer's energy gave out. Me and Bill were up a bit longer, but conked out near 2:30~3am ish. Also gave Bill his B-day Present, volume 6 of Chobits. Now he can view the series in order ^_^ | | Friday, September 1st, 2006 | | 3:18 pm |

Parents...
You know, I am grateful that my parents care about me and all... But how I live my life is really my business, not theirs.I DO feel that I have been halfassed in studying for the GMAT lately, and will have to revise that but this weekend is something that has been in the works for a while. I also have to learn to prioritize my goals/life much better. The most important things in my life right now are: 1. Losing Weight - Change DIET and GET OUT AND BE ACTIVE. 2. Doing well on GMAT and applying for Business school. My biggest issue is that I am not that comfortable with going back to B-school for next year. Dad is right on many counts in that going sooner is better than later especially if it's part time. Even so, I still want to explore the work world a bit more. What do I want? I really want to form a strong social network for ideas on both career and life. Anyhow... will livejournal more later. | | 11:08 am |
Will be a busy weekend
Studying for GMAT is one of my goals, but damned if I can make myself find the time to study. Will make sure to register for test tonight... hopefully around 11/18 or so.... Anyhow, I am gonna have a sorta busy weekend. Bill and Ofer will be staying over at my place over the long holiday weekend. Both will go back on Monday evening. Too bad the weather isn't holding up ;_; My plans are to have Bill at least get into B'klyn for pizza at Tontonno's and see coney island at some point this weekend. That, and treat him to Korean BBQ at NY Gomtang and Kalbi. Also must show him Dokkoida - a truly insane 12 ep show. Hmm not much else here, but that I may need to take a day off to get my pkgs - or have someone else get them for me (hopefully a neighbor will step up). Otogi Zoshi OP performed LIVE!
Got an email from one of my club mailing lists for a Live Performance by the band who did the OP for Otogi Zoshi.

You might not have heard of ATTACK HAUS before, however, this band in fact is the one who did the opening theme song "Zen" for Production IG's animation "OTOGI ZOSHI" (Heian era version)
Therefore, we'd wanted to let you and your community know about this news and hope people would show some interest to check out their elaborate shows. So, it'd be very much appreciated if you could spread the live info to all of your anime fans.

Whoa - cool site about NYC
Forgotten NY? Nice site. http://www.forgotten-ny.com/The mermaid parade is real, and is quite fun. Went last year with my cousin, who accidentally injured her foot (shallow cut) and had great pizza at Tontono's (sp?_) and rode the Cyclone. Fun times indeed. | | 10:00 am |
Woo Hoo - Got Basara 10!
Thank the gods for Kinokuniya, for I found Basara 10. Read it on the walk home, then to savor it some more read it twice more while eating dinner at John's Shanghai ( not recommended - well, it wasn't bad. just sorta mediocre for the money). I also went grocery shopping with my sister at Gristedes and got two quart sized Edy's Vanilla Bean and Coffee Ice Cream for $7 and got Poland Spring water for the apartment as well. Cleaned the bathroom (blech). Now only the floors of the apt and my room are left. Gotta grab a laundry bag or two somewhere. Debating whether to see Batman Begins tomorrow with a bunch of Metro folks. I wanted to s ince I'd not seen them since the Shoujo meet. :) Also updated my manga lists ( in excel) and in my dvd profiler link. | | Wednesday, June 8th, 2005 | | 11:50 am |
Re: Revenge of the Sith ....
oh I have a point 4. 4. One of the lamest No!!!!!s I've ever been subjected to on TV/Movies in general. This one had no Oomph! at all! Give me a overly sappy/melodramatic "Kaahhhhnnnn!" a la James Kirk ( William Shatner in Star Trek II: Wrath of Kahn) anyday. http://www.nooooooo.com/#endI also do feel (as my sister does) that the set up isn't entirely necessary and only a small portion is needed for development of "The Tribulations of Anakin" (~ my imagined working title) where the needless parts of the three Star Wars Prequels are condensed into 1 2.5 hr movie or 3 hr movie. | | 11:34 am |
Update on dinner at Carmine's...
Well, I did post a while back that I'd have dinner at Carmine's, so let me speak of how good it was and what we got. Couple of things to note: 1. Carmine's is not cheap - it runs at about $40/person on average. 2. Portions are just HUGE. I mean you can feed an army or at least whatever they give is like the size of your party plus 2. 3. I'd recommend it for a group of at least 6 people, preferably more. My party was 7, and we had ordered as the waiter suggested and it was *just* the right amount of food. 4. I'd recommend that you ask that they reduce the salt in the food as a bunch of dishes were a bit salty. Here is a link to their website. http://www.carminesnyc.com/You really should reserve, and they won't seat you until the entire party is there. We were on the second floor, which was a bit more quiet. My party consisted of - Me My Sister My Dad My Mom My Aunt My Cousin (much older) My Cousin's Wife which makes seven. On to what we ordered: 2 bottles of Barbera d'Alba Caesar Salad Calamari Appetizer (feeds 7 people EASY) Mussel Appetizer (feeds about 4~5 easy) Sole cooked with butter sauce and shrimp, clams mushrooms (feeds 5 easy) Mixed seafood with pasta (Feeds 6 easy) Veal Saltimbocca (feeds 5 easy) Tiramisu (feeds 7-8 easy) 1 Coffee The food as usual was friggin awesome. Fish is great but my sis and I agreed we should have gotten more pasta. Bill was 260 with tax, and I gave 40 in tip so altogether it ran $300. Sis gave me $150 later, so that was covered. | | 9:37 am |
Interesting quiz - thanks Sakura~!! | You scored as Cultural Creative. Cultural Creatives are probably the newest group to enter this realm. You are a modern thinker who tends to shy away from organized religion but still feels as if there is something greater than ourselves. You are very spiritual, even if you are not religious. Life has a meaning outside of the rational.

Star Wars Ep III: Revenge of the Sith *Spoilerific*
Couple of notes: I haven't seen Attack of the Clones even though I have it on dvd. But both me and my sister completely agreed the prequels can easily be cut into one movie or two 2hr movies and be completely effective. Some ways to do this is to rewrite the script to do away with most of The Phantom Menace and Attack of the clones, and have the entire movie focus on Padme and Anakin and Jedi Council/Palpatine. I'd assume that the bulk of TPM would be gone as that is the movie with the smallest scale and has the least impact with respect to Anakin's development as the Chosen One who turns to betray all he believes in and fails to see (tragically) that Padme loses the will to live due to his own actions. George Lucas, Please PLEASE PLEASE do not make another trilogy. Be a creative consultant, but do not direct nor write the screenplays. Bring more people in, because although you are a genius and an innovator, you can't write dialogue for shit and are too attached to certain scenes to be an effective editor/director. | | 8:54 am |
Busy weekend... and saw ROTS (Revenge of the Sith)
You know, this weekend was still busy. On Friday, I had dinner with Sakura at Menkui-Tei, who I met around 630 at Kino and who had bought (gasp!) the new edition of Shonen Jump. It looked pretty awesome. Then I went into Barnes and Noble around the corner and got Rurouni Kenshin 15 and Bleach 7. And thus was reminded of the awesomeness of the anime at the same time (Dammit! Smokey has my anime! And he's hard to reach!) I had the Menkui Ramen, she had the curry ramen and a Ginger Ale, and we split a gyoza. Then I went in to work until about 940pm to finish stuff, and went to the bronx. Saturday I met up with an old friend who had my cheap HK dvd of Hero. Dude was late (by an hour! ARGGH - dude needs a cell.) and I ate at Burger king while we discussed Hero. Then we went to my place, where he took High Risk, Incredibles, and Die Another Day to watch at home. Hope he enjoys them. Then I finished off Soul Caliber 2 GameCube version for rest of the day. Pretty relaxing. Had dinner at Grand Sichuan with my sister. Ordered Shrimp Dumplings in spicy oil, a spinach dish from the special menu (had a really elaborate name- Princess something or other),Beef with Oyster sauce (didn't liek the veggies but it was good) and an item me and my sis liked from Mao's Home Cooking menu - Potatoes with vinegar. Went home then messed with other stuff Sunday: Sis went off to her 2.9 mi race, and be being a fool didn't check to see where she was having the race - 102st or some such. Since I took a cab to 72st and central park west, I wandered the park. (Had hot dog and a good humor chocolate eclair.) Dropped by the office, and picked up my bag (which had my Palm Zire 31 ) and then went to midtown via F train. Stopped by Jim Hanley's Universe and got Maison Ikkoku 11, Samurai Deeper Kyo 13, and Boys over Flowers 12. Then went to Burger king where I had a whopper , shake and fries until 1140, when I ment Dan and 'Disa and Michael (owner of souls) for the irregular Metro anime Shoujo meet. Watched a buttload of stuff, all good and fun. left at 6, ate at Pho 32, and then (thanks jung!) went to see SW ep3: ROTS. Saw Revenge of the Sith and had various thoughts about it. SPOILERS ALERT!!! SPOILERS ALERT!!! SPOILERS ALERT!!! SPOILERS ALERT!!! SPOILERS ALERT!!! 1. I wish more had been fleshed out as to Anakin's perceived issues with the Jedi Council. It's not enough to say, this violates tradition! and then go into kill the younglings and padawans and whatever in the Jedi temple. Not to mention the delirious crap he spouts before the battle with ObiWan. 2. Conversely, my sister pointed out that it would also have been acceptable if they could have expanded on why the sith are so BAD and EVIL and what they'd done historically against the Jedi. It would have made Anakin's turn to the dark side more dramatic. 3. Death scenes were lame. That is all. | | Friday, June 3rd, 2005 | | 9:26 am |
Kodocha is friggin' awesome (Shoujo manga rawks~~~!)
I finished 1-10 of Tokyopop's Kodocha, and dammit it is friggin awesome. The drama, the love, the comedy (over the top) and just general fun of the read blew me away. It reminded me of another favorite, Marmalade Boy. Now I'll have to look into the anime.... | | Thursday, June 2nd, 2005 | | 8:23 am |

Got more stuff, and met with relatives...
Got KareKano 15 and My Life by Bill Clinton in paperback. I'll try to tackle the biography as soon as I am done with Getbackers and Kodocha manga. And HOT DAMN! I read and am caught up in KareKano manga (upto 15). KareKano manga is damn fun and it's gotten dark. Love the cast, and can't wait until #16 comes out. Whoo boy, it's some heavy stuff. Love it, Love it, Love it. Current Mood: busy |
